Operating an excavator for a while will inevitably cause damage to the vehicle. To handle unexpected breakdowns, you need to understand the common errors in excavators. For details, follow Comacpro in the article below.
Excavator engine errors
The engine is very susceptible to damage. If not checked and repaired promptly, it will directly affect the operation of the excavator.

Here are some common engine errors and how to fix them:
- The air filter is clogged → needs to be cleaned thoroughly. If dust is stuck, it needs to be replaced.
- The fuel used has impurities → must be cleaned thoroughly before adding fuel.
- There is dirt stuck in the elbows, fuel pipes → replace the fuel filter.
- The engine with a turbo is not operating normally → restore or replace.
Hydraulic system failure
With the excavator hydraulic system, the cause of damage is often due to the dirt in hydraulic oil.

There are three types of contamination:
- Solid contamination: dirt particles such as sand, slag, rust, iron particles that are released in the equipment, residue, recycled hydraulic oil with added particles such as PE to create virtual viscosity. Over time, these plastic particles burn and stick to the pump systems and pipes, clogging the hydraulic systems and reducing the working pressure of the machine…
- Liquid contamination: the original hydraulic oil is mixed with other liquid components such as water, the newly added oil is not of the correct type and quality level such as (ISO VG / AW 32, 46, 68, 100, 220). This type of contamination is easy to see because it changes the color of the original oil.
- Air contamination: air gets into the oil. This type of contamination is easy to detect because it creates air bubbles in the oil tank as well as pipes.
Electrical system fault
The electrical system is also a part that is prone to damage. These damages, if detected early, can be quickly repaired so that they can be used.
Starting system
- Check the starting fuse on the fuse box
- Check the starting fuse on the ground switch
- Check if the battery has power → check the battery charging system
- Check the starting switch, wiring system → fix by short-circuiting, replacing a new wire or replacing a new starting switch.
- Check the starting motor → have an electrician fix it if there is a problem.
Battery charging system
- Check the charging fuse on the ground switch.
- Check the wiring system, pay attention to the wire connections if necessary, use sandpaper to re-check these contacts.
- Check the generator motor if there is any damage → have it repaired by a mechanic.

Understanding common errors in excavators will help operators proactively repair and replace them in time so as not to affect work efficiency. Follow the next articles on the Comacpro floor for more useful information.
